Health Check – CMMI

“Digitalization has now arrived on the agenda of German hospital managers – almost 90% state that they have a digitalization strategy.”
No strategy without a status quo!
Together with the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Amberg-Weiden (OTH), we have developed a CMMI maturity model to better evaluate decisions and investments in hospitals.

Maturity model for hospitals

With our maturity model, you can evaluate decisions and investments in the hospital 10x better

Digitalization is now on the agenda of German hospital managers – almost 90% state that they have a digitalization strategy. Together with the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Amberg-Weiden (OTH), we have developed a CMMI maturity model to better evaluate decisions and investments in hospitals.

The CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is a maturity model for assessing processes in hospitals based on best practices that goes far beyond previous concepts and not only covers innovative technologies and digital solutions, but also assesses their impact in terms of efficiency and quality in practice in an impact-oriented manner. CMMI helps to significantly improve an organization’s ability to develop complex systems of high quality.

No strategy without a status quo! The first step towards digitalization is to determine the status quo. Only then can sensible strategies be developed.

Get a transparent overview of your process landscape

CMMI is based on the principle that the development process used essentially determines the quality of the resulting product. IFOHRA creates transparency and highlights the strengths and weaknesses of the processes. Institutions often do not know their processes and therefore have no overview of their process costs. Due to a lack of time and resources, it is very difficult for hospitals to carry out regular internal evaluations, so decisions about large investments are often made on the basis of incomplete information.

By introducing a CMMI process maturity model, we can provide hospitals with a transparent overview of the process landscape. We support both operational and strategic corporate decisions on the basis of recommendations for action from our scientific models.

In the most common, step-by-step representation, our maturity model comprises five successive stages or maturity levels that provide a structured path for process improvement.

The CMMI maturity model

The best practices that need to be implemented in order to achieve a maturity level are structured into so-called process areas. The process areas are firmly assigned to the maturity levels and address topics from the categories of process management, project management, development and support.

To assess the criteria, a comprehensive list of questions is used, on which various groups of people in the hospital are asked. The survey is conducted using an online questionnaire and face-to-face interviews. This assessment method can be used in outpatient and inpatient settings and offers the opportunity to show the difference between the current and potential state of care in a structured way.
